Tri-Locker

Case Study

The packaging industry faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable solutions that meet the demands of environmentally conscious consumers and evolving regulations. Bursting onto the packaging scene in 2023, Tri-Locker is a Patented tray sealing solution right at the forefront of these efforts.

THE CHALLENGE

Tri-locker is attempting to solve a thorny problem: how to reduce the carbon footprint of tray sealing – a common packaging format in everything from grab-and-go sandwiches to ready meals. Its mission? To save many thousands of tonnes of plastic per annum in the UK.

Tri-Locker’s solution is 99.5% plastic-free and its patented technology features cellulosic-based components to ensure that the packaging is fully-recyclable. The sealing system does not require heat to seal, which means it has a much lower carbon footprint than traditional heat-sealed tray packaging.

In addition to the environmental benefits, Tri-Locker’s sealing technology presents an opportunity for manufacturers to save large sums in tax associated with current and pending legislation. Savings are specific to each retailer but could run into the millions, enabling manufacturers to re-invest in other environmentally friendly solutions.

As a new business with an unfamiliar solution the challenge for Tri-Locker is establishing credibility and proof of concept in a space where the status quo is entrenched. Tri-Locker’s co-founders knew they needed the very best industry partners to help them establish their new product as a credible alternative to heat-sealed, and sometimes difficult to recycle, plastic films – and they knew exactly where to turn.

THE SOLUTION

OPRL was the only choice when it came to seeking out the expertise and labelling solutions Tri-Locker required. Thanks to OPRL’s expertise Tri-Locker’s team are more confident about their recycling credentials and ability to support their customers as they comply with new regulations and seek more sustainable solutions.

  3. Finaly Tri-Locker’s team knows that OPRL is on hand to answer any questions – large or small – that will emerge as the business evolves and grows.

Now Tri-Locker’s team can focus all their energy on educating consumers and the packaging industry on the benefits of its cold seal solutions.

THE RESULT
