OPRL joins the UK Packaging Pact as a Founding Signatory

UK Packaging Pact

At OPRL, we believe that clear, consistent recycling information is essential to building a more circular economy. That’s why we’re proud to announce that we have joined the UK Packaging Pact as a Founding Signatory.

Launching in April 2026, the UK Packaging Pact represents a significant step forward for the UK’s packaging system, bringing together organisations from across the value chain to drive meaningful, system-wide change.

A shared commitment to better packaging

The UK Packaging Pact marks a new era for circular packaging in the UK, with a clear ambition: to transform packaging so it works better for people and the planet.

Backed by over 55 founding signatories and supported by PackUK and the UK Government, the Pact reflects a collective commitment to accelerate progress across the entire packaging system.

For OPRL, this aligns closely with our mission. We work at the intersection of packaging design, labelling and consumer behaviour, helping businesses give people the clarity they need to recycle correctly, more often.

Why OPRL is supporting the UK Packaging Pact

Transforming the UK’s packaging system requires collaboration across every stage, from design and production through to collection, sorting and recycling.

As the UK’s trusted recycling labelling scheme, OPRL brings a unique perspective to this challenge. We understand that even the most recyclable packaging won’t deliver environmental benefits unless people know what to do with it.

By joining the UK Packaging Pact, we are reinforcing our commitment to:

  • Improving the clarity and consistency of recycling information
  • Supporting better packaging design decisions
  • Helping bridge the gap between recyclability and real-world recycling behaviour

Jude Allan, Managing Director at OPRL said:

“The UK Packaging Pact represents a vital step forward in aligning efforts across the packaging value chain for all packaging materials. At OPRL, we know that clear, consistent communication is key to turning recyclability into real-world recycling. By working collaboratively through the Pact, we can help create a system that is simpler for businesses and clearer for consumer. Ultimately delivering better outcomes for people and the environment.”

In short, we’re helping ensure that packaging works not just in theory but in practice.

Collective action across the value chain

One of the Pact’s greatest strengths is its collaborative approach. With signatories spanning the full packaging value chain, it creates a platform for shared learning, aligned action and measurable progress.

This kind of collective leadership is essential. No single organisation can solve the packaging challenge alone—but together, we can create a system that is simpler, clearer and more effective for everyone.

At OPRL, we see this as an opportunity to:

  • Share insights from our consumer research and labelling expertise
  • Support alignment between recyclability and communication
  • Contribute to a more consistent, UK-wide approach to packaging and recycling

Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond

With the Pact launching in April 2026, the coming months will focus on building momentum, deepening collaboration and setting the foundations for long-term change.

We’re excited to work alongside fellow signatories, WRAP, PackUK and government partners to help shape a more circular future for packaging in the UK.

Because when packaging is designed well and communicated clearly it becomes easier for everyone to do the right thing.
