Accelerating to a circular economy with expert advice and support from OPRL

The owner of some of the nation’s best loved tea brands – including Tetley, Teapigs and Good Earth – Tata Consumer Products is on a mission to transition to a circular economy. The consumer goods company is partnering with OPRL not just to ensure its products have pEPR-compliant recycling labels, but also to benefit from our team’s expert advice and unparalleled industry connections.

THE CHALLENGE

With a goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, Tata Consumer Products must hit an interim target of making 100% of all its packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

What’s more, as a member of the UK Plastics Pact, the company has committed to eliminating problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging through redesign, innovation, or reuse delivery models. All its remaining plastic packaging must be reusable or recyclable – while at least 30% needs to be made from recycled content.

To fulfil these ambitious commitments, the company’s sustainability manager needed to source the right packaging options, whilst ensuring all that they kept up to date with all the latest regulations.

THE SOLUTION

Tata Consumer Products decided that the way forward was to join OPRL with the objective of helping to drive their circular economy and enhancing consumer comprehension regarding product disposal. Through this partnership, they aim to facilitate a seamless transition towards sustainable practices and empower consumers to make informed choices for a greener future.

TCP’s team now have access to our labelling toolstack and the advice they need to reach their goals. We’re collaborating with them, acting as a trusted advisor when it comes to labelling their packaging with the correct recycling information. We’re also helping its sustainability team navigate the legislative requirements, providing the reassurance that the recycling labels they put on their packaging is compliant.

THE RESULTS

By offering guidance on the company’s diverse packaging challenges and specific labelling needs, OPRL is delivering a personalised, responsive service backed up by credible evidence. The result? Tata Consumer Products’ partnership with OPRL has streamlined its processes as it moves to a circular economy, increasing efficiency.

With OPRL’s help, Tata Consumer Products is undergoing a seamless transition to sustainable practices across its packaging for its portfolio of household brands.
